One glance out the window and it’s clear—a foggy morning for sure. [Okay, pun intended.]

So what happens when our feet hit the floor of a brand new day and our brain feels like the weather looks? And I’m not talking about the aftermath of a little over-imbibing the night before.

It may be that we have a hard time collecting our thoughts. Or that we have more problems to deal with than answers. Or maybe we feel like our life is unfolding in a slow motion haze—our hopes, dreams, and desires seem trapped in a shroud of confusion.

When we drive, failure to turn on the fog lamps of our cars is to disregard their importance for the safety of others and ourselves. To speed through the murkiness is a prescription for disaster. To refuse to allow more time to get to our destination is a great way to be late, or not arrive at all. And when we follow too close on the bumper of the vehicle in front of us, the odds increase things will end poorly for everyone if a sudden stop is necessary.

Similarly, what if a few simple action steps could help us safely find our way through the brain fog?

  • Turn to God, the Light that is the foundation of all wisdom.
  • Slow the rush to demand immediate answers.
  • Accept clarity will come, in God’s perfect time.
  • Refuse to force resolution as haste can make for a whole lot of unnecessary pain and suffering.

Pray. Listen. Stay alert. Drive—and live—with quiet, steady, intention and purpose. The fog will melt away in due time with the rise of the morning sun. Or Son.

How do I feel when I’m confused or uncertain?

Do I tend to rush through the fog of whatever manner or description?

Do I struggle with impatience and want quicker resolution?
